Carl McHugh

CARL McHugh was a key part of Argyle’s defence in 2014-15, alongside Peter Hartley and Curtis Nelson.
Carl made 43 starts for the Pilgrims last season, after he signed a two-year deal with Argyle. He signed at the start of the 2014-15 season, after leaving Bradford City.

A centre-back who can also play on the left, Carl played an integral part in the Bantams’ fairy-tale run to the 2013 Carling Cup final, beating the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa along the way. Carl scored a memorable header against Aston Villa in the semi-final first-leg. County Donegal-born Carl has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, making his debut for the Under-21s in February 2013 and being included in his country’s squad for the Euro Under-21 Championship qualifiers in October. Carl made a total for 44 appearances for Bradford after joining them from Reading at the beginning of the 2012-13 season.

Carl scored two league goals for the Pilgrims last season, against Mansfield and Burton Albion.
